The bradyseism that submerged ancient Baia is still active, the ground level of Pozzuoli has risen and fallen by measurable amounts multiple times in the last 50 years (the most dramatic episode was 1982-84, when 2 meters of uplift caused the evacuation of 40,000 residents of Pozzuoli's historic center and permanent damage to hundreds of buildings). The Roman ruins currently underwater were at sea level in antiquity. They may be at sea level again in geological future.
