Venchi gianduiotti, wine from the cellar door, 36-month Parmigiano, real balsamic: the products worth the suitcase space, or a courier.

The worst souvenirs live within 100 metres of a monument. The best ones are the products Italians actually buy, and almost all of them ship home, which beats explaining a wheel of cheese at security.
Rule of thumb: if it has a DOP/IGP seal or a family name on the label, it’s a souvenir. If it has the Colosseum on it, it’s a regret.
