Naples is loud, intense, and one of the most alive cities in Europe, and in two days you do two things well: the chaotic historic center with the world's best pizza on day one, and Pompeii on day two. Don't try to also bolt on Capri, the Amalfi Coast, and Vesuvius. That is how people end up seeing none of it. Two focused days beat a frantic five-stop blur.

The center is walkable but full-on, so go on foot and stay alert in the crowds. Book Pompeii or a guided tour to skip the line and make sense of the ruins, and take the simple Circumvesuviana train down. No car in the city. It is chaos.

2-Day Naples Itinerary

Naples, Italy, A view over Bay of Naples, Port of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius

Day 1: The Historic Center and Pizza

Walk Spaccanapoli, the dead-straight old street, the Duomo with the San Gennaro chapel, and the underground city if you like, then the Archaeological Museum for the treasures dug out of Pompeii. Lunch is a proper Neapolitan pizza, the city that invented it. Easy afternoon, evening on the lively piazzas.

Day 2: Pompeii

Take the Circumvesuviana train down to Pompeii for the morning and early afternoon, ideally with a guide so the ruined city comes alive, with good shoes and water for the sun and stone. Back to Naples for a final waterfront passeggiata (traditional evening stroll) and dinner. One big site, done properly.

Q&A: Naples in 2 Days

Is 2 days enough for Naples?

For the essentials, yes: the historic center and pizza one day, Pompeii the next. It isn't enough to also do Capri, the Amalfi Coast, and Vesuvius, so don't try. Pick the city and Pompeii and do them well.

How do I get to Pompeii?

The Circumvesuviana commuter train from Naples to the Pompei Scavi stop, around forty minutes. Book a guided tour or at least your entry online to skip the line, and wear sturdy shoes for the uneven stone.

Where do I eat the best pizza?

At the historic pizzerias of the center. Expect a queue at the famous ones, and the simple margherita or marinara is the test. The high turnover spots are both delicious and cheap.

Is Naples safe?

The center is fine with normal city sense: watch your bag and phone in crowds and on transport, especially around the station. Millions visit happily. Just stay aware.

When should I go?

Spring and fall for comfortable city walking and Pompeii without the summer heat, which is punishing on the open ruins. Winter is mild and quieter, with the city as lively as ever.
