The beach has a UNESCO heritage designation as part of the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu national park. How to Get to Cala Goloritze
By trail: from the parking area above Baunei (on the Gennargentu plateau, accessible by car from the SS125 Orientale Sarda highway), a marked trail (approximately 5km, 1h downhill, 2h uphill return) descends through maquis scrubland to the beach. The trail is rocky and requires appropriate footwear, hiking shoes at minimum. In summer (June-September) access is regulated: a limited number of daily passes is issued to prevent overcrowding. Book the pass online at comune.baunei.og.it, the booking system opens in spring and fills quickly for July-August. By boat: excursions depart from Santa Maria Navarrese (25km north by sea) and Arbatax, reaching Cala Goloritze in approximately 45 minutes. The boat approach gives a view of the Aguglia rock tower and the sea arch from the sea, a different and equally impressive perspective.

The Aguglia and the Sea Arch
The Aguglia di Cala Goloritze is a 140-metre limestone pinnacle that rises directly from the beach, one of the most famous rock climbing routes in the Mediterranean, with difficulty routes on the east and north faces. The sea arch (Arco di Goloritze) frames the beach from the north headland, visible from both the trail descent and the beach itself. Both features are natural formations of the Mesozoic limestone that composes the eastern Sardinian cliff coast. The Aguglia was first climbed in 1969 by a French team. Today it is climbed by approximately 500 parties per season.
